Schools within the Nyonhini circuit where three headteachers were assaulted will remain closed until teachers are sure of their safety.
This is according to the leadership of the circuit who says the attacks have caused fear among the teachers and students.
It will be recalled that the headteachers for the Nyonhini Junior High School Block B, the Nadaha Islamic Primary School, the Sawudikia Primary School, and a circuit supervisor were allegedly assaulted by six thugs who besieged the Nyonhini JHS school on January 27.
In solidarity with their colleagues, teachers in the Tamale Metropolis have been on strike to express their displeasure.
Among other demands, the teachers asked that the police update their leadership on the progress of ongoing investigations and measures put in place by the metropolis and regional directorates to ensure the safety of teachers in their line of duty.
Again, the teachers are asking the police to arrest the perpetrators before Friday, February 5, 2021, and process them for court.
But following a meeting between the district educational directorate, chiefs and the Conference of Heads of Basic Schools, a decision was made to allow all schools to resume apart from those in the Nyonhini circuit.
Speaking to JoyNews, spokesperson for the teachers, Bismark Ampomah said they are largely satisfied with progress made with regards to their demands.
According to him, the police have instituted a patrol team to move around the metropolis to ensure their safety.
The police has also assured them of some progress in their investigation and were optimistic they will soon effect some arrests.
Also, emergency numbers have been provided to all the schools within the metropolis.
Mr Ampomah said their request for a meeting with all the stakeholders was honoured.

He added that it is based on this that they have resolved that all schools reopen on February 15, 2021, for classes to begin.
He however noted that schools in the Nyonhini circuit will remain closed until the perpetrators are arrested and brought before court.
