Parliament Sittings To Go Online This Week

The Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has announced that two-thirds of MPs will have their parliamentary proceedings virtually at their offices in order to contain the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to the Speaker, the online sitting will begin this week, and few People would be in Parliament physically.

The directive was given by the Speaker on Friday January 22, 2021 at the floor of parliament.

He added that, one-third of the Members of the House will be required to be present in the chamber to carry on with the business of the house, while the rest will be in their offices to observe and take part in the proceedings.

He also revealed, that the house was also considering holding sittings in the tent erected at the Forecourt of Parliament where the President and the Vice were sworn in to pave way for the fumigation exercise in the chamber and the offices of Parliament.
Bagbin however indicated that, when debate crop up in the house MPs we meet and debate, indicating that ” because of Covid-19, we will need one- third of members on the floor .”

“The rest will have to do virtual Parliament, you will have to be in your offices to observe proceedings and as and when necessary, appear to contribute, ” the Speaker noted.
