Judges are not Independent, they work to please their Appointing Authority – Director of Ghana School of Law

A former Director of the Ghana School of Law, Kwaku Ansah-Asare is captured on a viral video critiquing judges in the country.

Mr Ansah-Asare emphatically stated, that judges in the country are not independent.
According to him, most judges follow the directives of their appointing authority.

He was responding to issues surrounding adjudication and proper delivery of justice in the country.

“Speaking as a former Director of the Ghana School of Law, I call tell you that when it comes to these things, the judges are not independent. When they are selected, they have to kowtow the line of the person who empaneled them”, he said

He further stressed, “in political matters, in legal education matters, I am saying that they are not bold. They are timorous, they can’t bite but can only bark, quote me”.
